Trophies
World Schools Debating Championship Trophy
This trophy was presented by Australia for the inaugural WSDC in 1988. Affectionately known as "Humphry" by the New Zealanders, the trophy has been modified twice to enable more debating teams to be recorded.
Taonga
This word means "treasure" in Maori. As is customary, special awards are given to each member of winning teams and in some cases, runner-up teams. These taonga have been specially designed by whakairo (carving) tutor, Mita Murray, at Whaiora Marae in Auckland and made by his students. Each taonga is slightly different and has been blessed in the traditional Maori way. Made of New Zealand native woods, rimu, kauri and totara, the kaupapa (concept) is also included on a scroll that accompanies each reward. We wish to acknowledge the aroha shown to the Championships by the members of the Whaiora Marae. Ka nui nga mihi ki a koutou.
